John Lennon

John Lennon was a member of The Beatles. He died though, on December 8, 1980, in front of his house.

He was born in England in the middle of World War II. Nazis (natse) were dropping bombs (booms) near the hospital. His mother Julia Lennon was poor. But her sister Mimi Smith was not and took care of him (John). She was like his second mother. He went to two schools Dovedale and Quarry Bank. He passed the 11-plus test, which got him a bike from his favorite uncle and he moved to Quarry Bank. John loved poetry and art. Also, he had to get glasses when he was a kid. His mother got him liking rock music. And when he was a kid, his favorite uncle and his mother died. He was really sad.

John and some boys made a band. The Beatles are really "The Silver Beatles". Someone shortened it to "The Beatles". It was once called "Long John and the Silver Beatles", but John Lennon did not like being called Long John. His band also had these names: The Quarry Men, Johnny and The Moondogs and The Rainbows. They picked The Beatles to be like Buddy Holly's band The Crickets, for bugs. They changed the "e" to an "a" to add the word "beat" to their name. Paul was in the band and he understood John. He had lost his mom, too. They made songs for both their moms - "Julia" and "Let It Be".

Lots of people remember John Lennon around the world and his wish for the world was for there to be peace.
